It is daylily season!

First to bloom in my garden are daylilies Monday Morning Blues, Iwanna Piranha, and Tropical Pirate.

Monday Morning Blues (Magical Passes x tetra Blue Moon Rising), T. Petit (2005). As of today's flower standard size, this cultivar has a relatively small bloom (about 5"). The bloom color is consistent- peach with a nice slate grey-violet eye. This cultivar has great vigor- fast increase and many blooms in a single season (registered as 3 branches, 20 buds, re-bloom).

Iwanna Piranha ([Forestlake Ragamuffin x Mort Morss] x Cosmic Sensation), J. Kinnebrew (2006). This bloom is coral-rose in color. This is a popular cultivar among hybridizers because of the "teeth" associated with the fringes of the petals. Toothy daylilies are "hot" in daylilies these days.

Tropical Pirate, J. Salter (2010). This is one of my recent favorites. Love the intense yellow color of the blooms and the round red eyes and edges. Free blooming.
